A Guide to Your Wedding Registry

This is a guide for couples who are confused about their wedding registry and don’t know where to start. At first, for some couples, the idea and understanding of the wedding registry can feel awkward or confusing.

Many couples struggle with feelings of guilt for asking their families and friends to bring gifts or money to their wedding. We are here to tell you that this apprehension is completely normal! But, we also want to tell you that this is a part of your wedding that is supposed to make you and your partner feel celebrated and loved.

A wedding registry allows family and friends to provide essentials for the home that you and your future spouse will share. And if you and your partner already feel as though you have enough, or are minimalists in nature, there is always the opportunity to create a charity wedding registry. This can be part or all of the funds received at the wedding, just depending on what you prefer. But, for those who want to go the more traditional registry route, follow the tips below to get started on creating your personalized wedding registry.

Make the Registry a Priority

After the “Save the Dates” are sent out, the customized registry should be a priority at the beginning of wedding planning. This way, each guest will have plenty of time to do their shopping and the registry will be able to be posted to the wedding website and your invitations in time. Don’t worry, though! Making a registry is a lot more fun than couples initially imagined.

For easy access to all wedding guests, make sure to include the link to your customized registry on the wedding invites and your wedding website. This makes it easiest for people to find and make the purchase for your wedding. Technology has made the registry easier than ever to make! Take advantage of all the tools available to make this aspect of the wedding easier for you and your guests.

Keep All Registries in the Same Place

Some couples choose to create two registries, depending on their future household wants and needs. This is great as it gives guests more options or opportunities to find these gifts, especially if one or both are a brick-and-mortar location. Just make sure to keep any and all registries centralized on your website. Most wedding websites make this option easy and intuitive.

Cash is Always an Option

For couples who already have household essentials and would rather do the shopping themselves or put the money away for a future purchase, a cash fund is a great option. A cash fund is a registry option that allows guests to donate any amount of money to the couple. This is available on some wedding websites, but can also be set up and linked separately from the wedding website.

As we said at the beginning, this is just a guide to getting started on your registry! Don’t be afraid to play around with your wedding website to see what tools they offer or what tips they provide. Also, never underestimate the advice of loved ones. If you know couples who have recently gotten married, ask them what tips they have for starting a registry or what they wish they would have done, looking back.

There are so many tools and options for your customized wedding registry, so don’t be shy! Start thinking about what you and your partner could really use to give your marriage the best and sweetest start.
