Kip and Kris Unruh love the land they live on. It’s been their greatest joy to raised their children and grandchildren on their 20 acres. Since 2018 they have hosted more than 100 unique weddings. Spring, Summer & Fall are the color pallets that make The Barn at Riverbend the venue that feels like coming home. Kris would love to show you around their beautiful property.
The Story Behind The Barn at Riverbend
I knew my husband was the “one” in 1983. There were no lightening bolts or audible voices, just a quiet knowing that he was my best friend and I couldn’t imagine living my life without him. We have faced poverty, and sickness, starting our own business, the birth of six babies; survived toddlers, broken bones, teenage drivers six college tuitions and six beautiful weddings. It’s been a great privilege to live on 20 acres for the past 27 years. We’ve sweat and cursed and cried together trying to cultivate our little piece of heaven. We’ve given away three daughters in marriage on our property, and acquired 3 daughters-in-love through the wise decisions of our sons. We’ve cared for aging parents, hosted a decade of YoungLife youth events, gathered friends, and welcomed grand babies and through it all, I’m still married to the kindest man I’ve ever known.
In the summer of 2015, we entertained the idea to double the size of our barn, adding some parking, creating a whimsical outdoor amphitheater on our wooded hillside, and planting several new flower beds. Our barn sits on the edge of the south fork of the Grand River and it makes two bends on our property. My children spent countless summer hours playing in its water, so it was easy to name our newest business adventure: The Barn at Riverbend. Hospitality has been something our family has always embraced. Now that our three sons and three daughters have started their own families we are happy to have a reason to mow lots of grass, shamelessly plant flowers, and host 25 romantic weddings a year. I would love to show you around our handcrafted venue and property.

Yes, we have it covered. We will move your ceremony under the Veranda and our team will take care of readjusting the tables and chairs for a partial layout so your family can sit at rowed aisle chairs and your guests can sit Oscar-Style at their tables. We have a laminated layout that we can show you if you like as well!

Yes! We just ask that the dog is leashed with someone before the ceremony and then before the reception starts is taken back home by a loved one or professional. We love when our couples use Katie’s Kennel.

Since The Barn at Riverbend holds a liquor license from the state of MO we are required to provide ALL of the alcohol through us. Because of this, we can accommodate most special requests that you may have that are alcohol-related! Just let us know what you want and we’ll walk you through getting it!

We have a private parking lot for the venue for all of your guests to park. We will also have our event staff there to direct traffic and show them where to park. You don’t need to worry about a thing!
